Leadville K9 Skijor Classic

This event was founded in 2004 to promote the great sport of nordic skijoring.
Our goal is to get more people to experience the joy found in combining Nordic skiing with working dogs.
Any dog that likes to run and pull can be a skijor dog!

2006 Leadville K9 Skijor Classic: Saturday, February 18 at the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center, at Ski Cooper.

Race site is 1 mile south of Tennessee Pass on Hwy 24 at the 10th Mountain Hut/ Gravel Pit parking area.

Schedule of events this year:
9 Mile Advanced Course (1 and 2 Dog Classes run together, 9AM start) - This will be a tough course with BIG climbs and SCARY downhills! You will need a well-trained team to navigate this course. Expect a challenge! Lightly marked trail intersections, head-on passing, sharp turns, fast downhills, slow climbs, etc. The course will be a little tougher and approx 1 mile longer than 2005.

4 Mile Short Course (1 and 2 Dog Classes run together, 10:30AM start) - A very nice, wide open course that loops through Fish Flats. Mostly gently rolling terrain with one small downhill. Great spectating. Any first-time skijor racers are welcome!

Post-Race Cookout & Awards - After the race we will have the grill going with lunch. Awards ceremony.

Free Skijor Clinic - (1 PM, reservations required) - After the cookout Fritz Howard will host a free on-snow clinic. Learn the basics about equipment and techniques, then get out on the trail with your dog. We will have some loaner equipment available: dog harnesses, skijor lines and belts. We only have limited quantities, so please call ahead if you will need loaner gear.

Please help promote the race & clinic! Download a race flyer here and post it at your local nordic center, ski shop, animal shelter, vet clinic, etc.
